Meet great people, make a difference and learn new skills

Why not volunteer at Rough Edges?

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation, and the front line and face of our service. Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds; we’ve got teachers, students, psychiatrists, accountants - each of them brings something unique to the program. It is a wonderful way to give back to the community, learn new skills and meet great people.

Our next volunteer information night is Thursday 4th May from 7.30pm on Zoom - we would love to see you there! Click here to register now. The average tenure of our volunteers is three years, but many have been with us for 10 or more. The time commitment is flexible - we just need a minimum regular commitment of a three hour shift once every fortnight. Laura has been volunteering with us for over 11 years and she told us;

“It is as much about what you get as it is about what you give. I think I’ve received a lot of gifts through volunteering;...friendships… the sense of community, it follows me to everyday life… having the opportunity to see so many other perspectives on life has really helped me become the person I am today…”

An unprecedented demand for our services

In the past 12 months we have served almost 60% more meals than in previous years. People are doing it really tough. Our volunteers are critical to the survival of our service, they not only do the hosting role of Rough Edges by serving meals, but also build connections with our patrons which is what makes the lasting difference - to their lives and to the lives of those we serve in our local community.
